2016 UCI MTB DHI AND 4X WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS KICK OFF IN VAL DI SOLE. IN THE EVENING THE OPENING CEREMONY AND IN THE AFTERNOON THE FIRST 4X AND DHI TRAININGS

06 settembre 2016 - 19:31

Commezzadura (Val di Sole – Trentino), 6 September 2016 – The nations’ parade from the centre of Commezzadura to the Bike Park in Daolasa, starting at 7.45pm, will officially kick off 2016 UCI Mountain bike & Trials World Championships in Val di Sole. It will be the fourth Italian fixture of MTB Worlds after the past editions of Il Ciocco (1991), Livigno (2005) and Val di Sole (2008). The ceremony will be open by Aldo Bordati President of the O.C., followed by UCI and Italian Cycling Federation representatives and Ugo Rossi President of the Autonomous Province of Trento.

“It’s a great satisfaction to see the work of hundreds of people finally rewarded – commented president Aldo Bordati – in this second edition of the World Championships, Val di Sole and Trentino are ready in terms of organization, as confirmed by the races held last week in Vermiglio where the O.C. work received the compliments of athletes, marshals and officials, as well as in terms of tourist promotion linked to mountain biking. We have worked hard and before officially opening this World event, I would like to thank all those who have believed in this challenge: starting from the UCI, the Italian Federation, Trentino local authorities and the hundreds of volunteers. Without such a wonderful teamwork, we would have never been able to reach this objective.”

The first true pedal stroke of this world adventure in Val di Sole will take place at 5pm with the first official 4Cross practice runs 5.00pm on the long and flowy course in Daolasa, that has already played host to a world event in 2015. But this is not all, also downhill athletes start to warm up and concentrate on the main events to be held from Friday 9 to Sunday 11 September.

The day for team managers will not be very busy since they will just have to take part in the official meeting at 6pm, a first taste of the day’s main event: the opening ceremony in Commezzadura, the first official step of this year’s most important event for mountain bike gravity, as well as the first great international event after the Olympic Games in Rio. Over the two weeks of races this corner of Trentino is enlivened by almost 6,000 people from 50 different nations.

Thursday 8 September will mark another step forward in the preparation of the teams and riders: the final start list of the four downhill events will be confirmed, i.e. the young riders of the Juniors Men and Women, and the pro athletes of Elite Men and Women. The day dedicated to the most exciting and adrenaline-packed mountain bike discipline is divided in two parts: in the morning – from 9.00 to 12.30 – Juniors, together with Elite Women, will be involved in the first training sessions, while the Elite Men will test the legendary Black Snake in the afternoon, from 1.00pm to 4.30pm. All downhillers will be able to assess their approach and lines during a course inspection on foot in scheduled from 4.30 to 5.30 pm.

4X athletes instead will release the breaks in the evening: they will warm-up in the first official training from 7.00pm, and then the tough and decisive single qualifying timed rounds will take place from 8:30pm, on a floodlit spectacular course, set in a charming natural amphitheatre at the end of the Black Snake. The qualifying times will decide the start list for Friday’s 9 September main competition, when from 8.45pm, round after round, the two finals will crown 2016 World Champions 4X Men and Women.
