COMMEZZADURA (VAL DI SOLE – TRENTINO), 9 September 2016 – Australia’s Caroline Buchanan and Slovenia’s Mitja Ergaver are the new UCI 4X World Champions. They finished first in the World Championships race held tonight in Commezzadura, Val di Sole. Sixth place for Italian Aila Marcellini, she crashed in the semi-final and was thus out of the fight for the final. She then fell again in the consolation run won by Swiss Lucia Oetjen.
In the Women’s category, silver was conquered by German Franziska Meyer and bronze by Dutch Anneke Beerten, who last year clinched the gold here in Trentino.
The men’s race was decided after a general crash that involved the three favourites who were soon out of the game. Slovenia’s athlete was able to ride smoothly through the fray and across the finish line. He beat Austria’s Hannes Slavik, great favourite and silver medallist also in 2015, and GB’s Luke Cryer. Three Italians Giovanni Pozzoni, (last year sixth in Val di Sole), Giacomo Fantoni e Mario Milani went out in the 16th -finals.
4X world championships race drew large crowds who followed the competition and then enjoyed the concert by rapper Frankie Hi-Nrg Mc.
