Friday night in Val di Sole delivered a four-cross showdown packed with surprises. Tomas Slavik, the most dominant name in the discipline, was knocked out in the semi-finals — paving the way for another Slavik, Austria’s Hannes, to seize the spotlight. Austria also claimed the women’s victory through Lena Bauer
The stage was set for yet another triumph by Tomas Slavik in Val di Sole, but the crown jewel of the 4X Pro Tour — hosted in the heart of Val di Sole Bikeland — had other plans. In a dramatic twist, it was Hannes Slavik, 36 years old and racing with ice-cold determination, who emerged victorious in a nail-biting Big Final in Daolasa di Commezzadura. He edged out the Netherlands’ Tristan Botteram and Italy’s Julian Stimpfl to claim the win.
For Tomas Slavik, the most decorated four-cross rider in history, the night ended earlier than expected, with a shock elimination in the semi-finals. He eventually took fifth place overall, salvaging some satisfaction by winning the Small Final.
Austria doubled down on success as Lena Bauer claimed the top step of the podium in the women’s race, completing a memorable evening for the nation. Bauer preceded US Abigail Hogie and Brit Katherine Byng.
A particularly emotional moment came during the awards ceremony, when Czech rider Anna Slancova made a powerful return to Val di Sole. Slancova suffered a life-changing injury during the 4X event here in 2022, losing the use of her legs. On Friday, she returned to the very place where everything changed — this time, with a smile. Her presence on the podium, though not as a competitor, was a lasting image of strength and resilience on a night to remember.
