By signing the UCI Climate Action Charter, WBD Sports has taken a significant step forward in its commitment to environmental responsibility. The Val di Sole–Trentino stage (20–22 June), already a benchmark for sustainability in mountain biking, has been selected as a pilot venue for environmental monitoring by Oxygen Solutions
Environmental protection stands among the most urgent challenges of our time. As the consequences of the climate crisis become increasingly evident, sport is called to action – not only as a global stage, but as a driver of awareness and change.
With this in mind, the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series and Val di Sole–Trentino are doubling down on their commitment to a more sustainable future. In the lead-up to the Val di Sole event in Daolasa di Commezzadura, set for 20–22 June, Warner Bros Discovery Sports has rolled out a package of initiatives at the heart of its emissions reduction strategy.
As a partner of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), WBD Sports has signed the UCI Climate Action Charter, reinforcing its pledge to integrate sustainability into elite sporting events. The Charter sets a clear pathway, including the measurement and reporting of event-related emissions, science-based reduction targets, a shift to renewable energy, responsible waste management, sustainable procurement practices, and low-emission transport solutions.
This year, WBD Sports is also teaming up with Oxygen Solutions, a trusted UCI collaborator and developer of the Sustainability Impact Tracker — the sport’s first digital platform designed to assess and benchmark environmental impact across cycling stakeholders.
Starting in 2025, Oxygen Solutions will oversee the environmental performance of the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series across key sustainability metrics, including waste and resource management. Val di Sole–Trentino has been named one of four global pilot venues — alongside Leogang, Mont-Sainte-Anne, and Les Gets — with a tailored monitoring framework developed to support and amplify local best practices.
“Val di Sole has long been a proving ground for sustainable innovation in both sport and alpine tourism,” said Fabio Sacco, General Manager of the Val di Sole Tourism Board and Grandi Eventi Val di Sole. “This season, in addition to proven measures from past editions, we’re introducing a new waste collection system along the course and deepening spectator engagement around sustainability, thanks to the support of DH team AON Racing and the association Trash Free Trails. Being chosen as a pilot venue for the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series environmental monitoring project is a source of great pride — and a responsibility we embrace. Our goal is to make Val di Sole a living example of how world-class sport can coexist with climate-conscious event design.”
In 2025, Val di Sole will also renew its collaboration with ClimatePartner to support international climate compensation efforts. Unavoidable event emissions will be offset by backing a certified ocean protection project: for every tonne of CO₂ offset, 10 kilograms of plastic waste will be collected from coastal areas, preventing marine pollution and preserving ecosystems.
