COMMEZZADURA (VAL DI SOLE – TRENTINO), 9 SEPTEMBER 2016 – The rich 2016 UCI MTB World Champs Programme is enhanced by two side events, the DH Legends Reunion and Steve Peat’s Party. The first follows Pier Paolo “Pippo” Marani’s desire to celebrate a fourth of a century of Italian Downhill history. On Saturday 10 September from 17.15 the protagonists of 25 years from 1991 Il Ciocco Worlds will meet up in Daolasa.
Many Italian athletes who wrote the history of the international mountain biking movement, as well as those who took part in 1991 World event will be present: Corrado Hérin and Giovanna Bonazzi, the most decorated downhillers and winners of the Val di Sole Masters Worlds in their categories (50-54 years, men and women).
Among the people invited are Paolo Caramellino, great motorbike and bike athlete, Olympic champion Paola Pezzo and Paolo Rosola, while Bruno Zanchi, winner in 1991 in the Juniors, will not tale part due to physical problems, but will be at the disposal of fans and mtb lovers. The Downhill of the legends will feature other important names: UCI delegate David Vazquez Lopez, brilliant Red Bull commentator Rob Warner and his team mate Claudio Caluori. These two, in the traditional video preview of the racecourse (YouTube link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3WvymUEDk8), involved the true star, His Majesty Steve “Peaty” Peat. A tough descent with a few stops along a challenging and dusty Black Snake together with one of the greatest downhillers in the world. British rider will officially retire on the occasion of the 2016 UCI Mountain Bike & Trials Val di Sole. Organizers with President Aldo Bordati and secretary Sergio Battistini in agreement with UCI, decided to reward him: the great champion will be the forerunner of the Downhill held on Sunday 11 September, together with paracyclist “Carbonhook” Avigliano. At the end of the race (16.00hrs) he will of course be the star of the Steve Peat Special Party.
The Legends’ Downhill scheduled on Saturday afternoon (17.15) and tribute to Peaty on Sunday afternoon, are another reason to come to Val di Sole and not to miss the chance of watching great past and present champions, who have shaped the world of downhill.
